Lilli Aungier
My name is Lilli Aungier, I’m 18 years old and I’am lucky enough to have 9 horses/ ponies. I have 2 main competition horses (Jake and Carlos), 3 young ponies/ horses (George, Kimi and Loki) and 4 ponies either retired or outgrown that I kept (Dante, Colin, Jimmy and Thor).
- Where are you based?
I’am based in Surrey. We have a yard with an outdoor arena lots of stables and lots of paddocks.
- When did your riding journey begin?
My riding journey began when I was very young as my mum had horses so I was brought up around them. I started off showing and then in 2021/ 2022, I started properly jumping.
- What discipline(s) do you compete in?
I complete in Working hunter and Showjumping.
- What has been your proudest achievement so far?
My proudest achievement was definitely qualifying Streamside Dapple Dante for the 143cm Working Hunter pony of the year at Horse Of The Year Show 2024 then placing 9th. We brought Dante as dangerous and I have done all the work with him myself. It was also my first ever time qualifying for HOYS so it was very special.
- Tell us about your top horse!
I have 2 top horses, Clooneen Donnacha (Jake) and Navigator Scais (Carlos). Jake and I are currently jumping the 153cm Working Hunter pony qualifiers. Jake absolutely loves a big scary course and my dream would be to qualify him for HOYS. Carlos and I at the moment are doing mostly showjumping. In the future I’am hoping to jump the intermediate Working Hunter classes as well as stepping up showjumping. Both Carlos and Jake are 15hh and the biggest course I have jumped on them both is 1.20.
- What does a typical day look like for you?
A normal day would be to do the horses in the morning (feed, turn out, muck out, water, straw and hay). Then usually I will ride/ exercise all 6 of the horses I have at the yard and have lunch somewhere in between riding. They all then come in to dinner (or have dinner in the field as they stay out 24/7 in summer).
- What are your goals for the future?
My biggest goal/ dream for the next few years would be to qualify Jake for HOYS. And my dream in the long term would be to go up the levels in showjumping.
- Do you have any top riding tips or advice?
My advice would definitely be to have a plan before you go into the arena at a competition and have no doubt about anything.
- Do you have any pre-competition rituals or lucky habits?
My pre- competition ritual has to be to make sure I have my lucky belt on. And my dog Bobby seems to be a lucky charm for me too.
- Favourite post-ride snack or treat?
My favourite treat after I’ve ridden is an ice cold can of Coke.
- What’s your favourite Rowen Barbary product and why?
My absolute favourite product is the Recovery Sports Mash. I think it is amazing for keeping the horses hydrated after being ridden. I also love using it on a hotter day in the lorry and at competitions. I also love the Ready Mash Extra.
