New facilities and a great start to the season - Charlotte Clewlow

So much has happened since my last update, lots of competing, a new yard and a small expansion.

CJCeventing relocated to Lower Barn at Marbury Equestrian Centre in Nantwich in order to expand and offer brand new fantastic facilities to all the horses and owners. With brand new barn stabling, an outdoor school, indoor school, 8 mile farm ride, a cross country training course, hot wash bay, solarium and fantastic turnout. All still on the Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Wales borders.

We were all excited about the move but not looking forward to the actual moving day – 8 horses to move plus all the equipment (and I have a lot of rugs!!) and worst of all rubber matting!!  I was so lucky to get so much help that we managed a smooth painless move in one day and everyone settled in really quickly, with 3 more horse's arriving the following day. We are loving the yard and facilities.

There is something quite satisfying about stacking my new buckets, A different colour for each horse. Literally every colour in the Rainbow and more all ready for the Rowen Barbary feed that keeps the horses looking and feeling fantastic.

I have done lots of  BS showjumping since my last update, with super cob Flower being a total star. Stepping up to 1m classes. She just loves jumping and is so much fun to ride, her amazing results in 4 outing are

  • 1st British Novice
  • 1st  1m Tacklockers and Scope Qualified
  • 2nd 95cm (to Paddy)
  • 2nd 95cm
  • 2nd 1m Discovery.

She has also competed in the 90cm arena eventing at Kelsall and flew around double clear – just a tad fast!!

Ken joined the team and we have had a number of BS outing to get to know each other before the eventing season started, a very talented sensitive horse with whom tactful riding is needed. He has jumped well and got a 5th in the 1.05m class. He also had a dressage outing doing a good test for 68.88 % for 3rd place in the Novice 23, so excited to have this horse to event.

Paddy is back from his holidays as keen as ever and with a 1st in the 95cm and a 2nd in the 1m at his first BS outing.  At dressage, Paddy was rather excited to be out and in the Prelim 15 he couldn't quite contain himself to the end so had a little canter down the last centre line still getting 68.9% for 2nd place, then he did a great if very noisy (whinnied through most of the test) Novice 23 test for 72.2 % taking 1st place. So much love for this little horse.

I have two lovely horses in for schooling and to find new homes for, Joey 15.3hh, 8 yr old Dun gelding a super fun horse and Brett 15hh, 10yr old, Bay gelding a beautiful sweet natured horse.

So my event season started at Kelsall with Paddy doing lovely dressage for 26 and then he literally skipped around the Show Jumping and Cross Country to finish on his dressage score and take 3rd place, Ken and I had our debut outing jumping double clear with ease, just a few tense moments in the dressage.

The following week we were at Bradwell Horse Trials, Super Paddy did a lovely dressage test for 22.5 - with a 10 for the first centre line – I was over the moon as its not very often 10’s appear on a dressage test in eventing, he followed this with foot perfect clears round the Show Jumping and Cross Country to finish on 22.5 for 2nd place (beaten by just 0.5 of a penalty!!)

Ken did a good test for a 36 (quite reasonable for his section),  jumped a nice Show Jumping round for an unlucky pole and then cruised the Cross Country inside the time to finish just out of the placing.

Both horses step up to novice next time out - really looking forward to the challenge.
