Theresa Smyth
Welcoming our new sponsored rider, from our 2022 RB Team online competition! Theresa is a seasoned Dressage rider, having worked with the best in the dressage community. She is a Shropshire based rider, and her end goal is to compete all the way to grand prix!
Where are you based?
I am based just outside of Bridgnorth, Shropshire. I have 4 stables on a private yard owned by eventer Karen Walker.
When did you start riding?
I started riding when I was 4 year old, the youngest of 3 girls I was the only one to continue and here I am making a career out of it 34 years later!
Discipline?
I specialise in dressage, having worked for many top dressage riders over the years. Including Pammy Hutton, Vicki Thompson and Peter Storr.
Top Horse?
I have 3 horses, Jessie (Infinity and Beyond), Alan (Impress) both aged 10 and working Prix St Georges and Mr Kipling (5) who is on loan to a client of mine and we aim to share his competing in young horse classes all the way up the levels hopefully!
What is your favourite snack?
I am a self confessed chocoholic, all my clients know my obsession with Cadburys creme eggs and even keep me constantly supplied when I go to train them!
What are your goals for the future?
My aims for the future are to continue to produce my amazing string of horses, hopefully all the way to Grand Prix, with the help of my trainers Carl Hester and Justine Sole. I have qualified Alan for the advanced medium nationals being held in April at Hartpury so fingers crossed for a good result!
Top tips?
Top tips are… surround yourself with a great team of Vets, Farriers, Physio’s and trainers. It takes a whole army to keep these horses in peak condition! Also to enjoy it! The highs and very lows with horses are constant so try to enjoy them while they are there!
What are rituals?
I always have my pre competition ritual of prepping the horses and getting all my competition gear clean and ready to go. So on the morning of a show I can focus on learning my tests and riding to the best of my ability!
What is your favourite RB product?
I feed the RB solution mash, this is the most amazing product for the horses, especially Alan who is very sensitive and prone to ulcers. I also top up their fibre quota with the RB forage and fibre which they love the taste of!
